FAQs

What is a surveyor?

Put simply, a surveyor accurately determines the position of natural and man made objects on the earth’s surface. Information and results of the survey are then used for future planning purposes.

When would I need to use a surveyor?

  • When buying or selling land – if you don’t clearly know where your property line is
  • Before developing property
  • Whenever a boundary line or corner is unknown or in disagreement
  • When building – land surveying is often used to determine elevations of land and marking of proposed structures
  • Before land is divided – when a lending institution requires a survey for a mortgage
  • Before building a fence, building, shed, or anything close to an unknown property line
  • Cutting down a tree? Before you can, a surveyor needs to evaluate the girth and height of the tree
  • When purchasing title insurance
  • When applying for your land title

A lot of my experience as a builder has been obtained by working on renovations in Sydney. In particular such areas as Balmain, Hunters Hill, Lilyfield and Annandale. Due to the nature of these areas I understand the importance of accurate surveying. Since, returning to Canberra in 2003 I have formed my own building company and only use Peter and his team at 4D Surveying due to their professionalism and attention to detail.
