Government: Deformation Survey – Parliament House
Task: Determine the movement of a large concrete slab over a period of time, located outside Parliament House
We assessed the potential movement of the concrete slab by placing survey marks and benchmarks outside the surrounding area, connecting into them with survey instruments by radiating (i.e. bearing and distance from traverse stations) and recording the measurements in a data collector (a small handheld PDA).
The data collected from the survey was downloaded into software and located features were plotted. These features became the elements to monitor the slab's movement over time.
A 3D model was created from the original data collected and was used to compare and contrast future surveys to further monitor and measure any movement of the concrete over time. Ongoing surveys were conducted on a 3-6 month basis and were reported on each time.
